ABSTRACT
The prevalence of chronic pain syndromes is a social problem which is difficult to assess. The objective of the study was analysis of the cause pain, presence of neuropathic component, gender, age and place of residence of patients reporting to the Outpatient Department for Chronic Pain Treatment at the Institute of Agricultural Medicine in Lublin. The study covered the records concerning 213 patients, who were divided into 13 groups according to pain syndromes. As many as 169 patients from four most numerous groups: spine diseases, headache, cancer pain and zoster neuralgia were subjected to a detailed analysis. The results of the study indicated the following: * Urban inhabitants were considerably more often referred to the Outpatient Department for Chronic Pain treatment, compared to the rural population, the majority of them were females; * More than a half of the patients were treated due to pain in the course of spine diseases; * The highest percentage of patients with neuropathic component were observd in the group of cancerous diseases.
