ABSTRACT
Introduction and aim of the paper:
The defective endometrial function may cause the recurrent pregnancy loss and the embryo implantation failure after in vitro fertilization (IVF). The abnormal endometrial receptivity is associated, in some cases, with the improper composition of immunological factors in the uterus.

Brief description of the state of knowledge:
Implantation is characterized by invasion of the maternal tissues of the uterus by the embryo. Successful implantation is the end result of complex molecular interactions between the receptive uterus and mature blastocyst. During implantation, mature blastocyst may attach to the endometrium only during “implantation window”. A limited “window of implantation” ensures coordinated embryonic and endometrial development. Nowadays, a lot of uterine and blastocyst biological factors are known associated with implantation and early pregnancy maintenance. Although the theoretical knowledge of immunological factors in the endometrium is significant, the clinical implications of these elements are poorly understood.

Summary:
Currently, a new diagnostic strategy, namely the cytokine profiling in the endometrial secretions, is proposed to demonstrate their role in human reproduction. Practical utilization of the knowledge about endometrial factors during the human embryo implantation may sufficiently facilitate infertility treatment in the future.
