Digestive Disease Week (DDW) jest uważany za największe spotkanie akademików, naukowców oraz lekarzy praktykujących w dziedzinie gastroenterologii. Każdego roku DDW przyciąga przynajmniej 15 tysięcy uczestników z całego świata, głównie dzięki unikalnej możliwości poznania najnowszych osiągnięć w zakresie leczenia i profilaktyki, a także diagnostyki chorób przewodu pokarmowego. W niniejszym opracowaniu przedstawiono subiektywne podsumowanie najistotniejszych, z punktu widzenia autorów, osiągnięć i nowości w zakresie diagnostyki oraz leczenia zapalnych chorób jelit (Inflamatory Bowel Disease IBD) prezentowanych w ramach sesji plakatowych na DDW 2012 w San Diego, California, USA.
