ABSTRACT
The occurrence of functional dyspepsia concerns 2-10% of patients reporting to primary health care physician, and it is estimated that dyspeptic disorders may concern up to 30% of the total adult population. Functional dyspepsia (B1 - according to the most recent Rome III criteria) is define as a set of symptoms from the stomach and duodenum region, such as pain in the upper abdomen, upper abdominal fullness, and feeling full earlier than expected when eating, which cannot be explained by an organic, metabolic or systemic cause. Patients with dyspeptic disorders require great involvement on the part of a physician. An adequately performed physical examination and precisely taken medical history considerably facilitate early diagnosis of functional dyspepsia. The article discusses current definitions, classification, and diagnostic recommendations in functional dyspepsia.
